Villarreal is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire promising young center-back Nathan Zézé from Nantes. The 20-year-old French U21 international is on the cusp of departing his long-time club to join the Spanish outfit, which has competed in the Champions League. Villarreal is said to have submitted a substantial €22 million bid for Zézé, who is considered one of France`s most highly-rated defensive prospects. This strategic move comes as Villarreal seeks to reinforce their defense following a significant injury to Logan Costa.
While clubs like Inter Milan and AFC Bournemouth had previously shown interest in Zézé, their offers reportedly did not meet Nantes` valuation for their academy product. The left-footed defender has made 35 appearances for Les Canaris, though his last season was hampered by a severe ankle injury. Furthermore, Saudi Pro League newcomer Neom SC also made a bid for Zézé, but their offer was notably lower than Villarreal`s, ultimately paving the way for the Spanish club`s potential acquisition.
