Wasim Akram claims that Babar Azam’s batting has been impacted by captaincy pressure

Wasim Akram claims that Babar Azam’s batting has been impacted by captaincy pressure. Babar Azam’s batting in the 2023 ICC World Cup may have been impacted by the strain of captaining the team, according to former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram.

With four fifty-score innings and an average of 40.00, the 29-year-old could only muster 320 runs. After Abdullah Shafique (336 runs) and Muhammad Rizwan (395 runs), he was Pakistan’s third-highest run scorer.

Sultan of Swing said that Babar Azam should disregard captaincy when batting during an interview on a local sports program.

“Yes, the captaincy pressure has had an effect on him and he looked stressed, during the Asia Cup as well as in the World Cup,” Wasim continued.

“Captaincy pressure will always be there but when he is in the middle as a batter, he must focus there and how to get runs,” he said.

Concurrently, Misbah-ul-Haq discussed who should take the fallout from a poor World Cup campaign, emphasizing that Babar shouldn’t be the only one.

“We were expecting Babar to be among the top two or three run-getters in conditions of India,” Misbah explained.

“You had no offensive weapons at all, not even quick bowlers. Babar is not the only one to take responsibility when your best fast bowler is only taking three wickets with the new ball and your spinners are struggling, he continued.

“Everybody has to take the blame – the team management, selection committee and Babar- since these resources were backed by them,” he stated.

It should be mentioned that Pakistan did not place among the top four in the current World Cup. The Men in Green finished sixth in the standings after losing five of their league games including four straight losses for the first time ever at a single World Cup.
