Juventus and Atalanta Headline a Big Week in Serie A
One of the weekend`s most anticipated fixtures is Saturday`s midday clash between Juventus and Atalanta. This promises to be an intriguing encounter, especially if the hosts maintain their recent prolific scoring form. Juventus, often criticized for their defensive style last season, has transformed into a high-scoring team in the 2025-26 season, notably netting four goals in a thrilling win against Inter and repeating the feat against Borussia Dortmund in a memorable Champions League match.
Igor Tudor`s side has certainly made a bright start to the season, sitting just two points off league leaders Napoli after three wins and a draw from their first four games. Tudor, a player in the dominant Juve teams of the late 1990s and 2000s, was appointed in March following a dip in form under Thiago Motta, sparking a swift revival that appears to have continued into this season. Indeed, as Khephren Thuram explained, Juventus also capitalized on a four-game stint at the Club World Cup to build momentum:
Thuram: `We`re having a pretty good start, we know the coach well because he was with us last year and at the [Club] World Cup. The World Cup was very important for us to all be together, to learn how to work together as a group. It`s pretty good what we`re doing as a group right now but we still have work to do. We hope it`s going to get better.`
Currently fourth in the table, Atalanta didn`t burst out of the gates quite like Juventus, drawing their first two openers. However, in Serie A play, this much-changed outfit shows clear signs of progress. A summer of significant sales is common for Bergamo, but it wasn`t just the league`s top scorer Mateo Retegui who departed. After nine successful years with Atalanta, Gian Piero Gasperini finally took the reins at Roma, leaving former Southampton boss Ivan Juric to step in. Juric`s team took time to find its rhythm, but their last two games saw Lecce and Torino comfortably dispatched by two-goal margins.
This match could also provide an opportunity to observe the performance of two potentially key figures for the USMNT. Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah have started one Serie A game between them this season, though both received extended minutes in the Champions League. Musah also spoke about his move from AC Milan to Atalanta, a loan that includes a buy option for La Dea.
Musah: `I`m at a time in my career where it`s important for me to focus on that [central midfield] position and develop as much as I can in that area. Also, Atalanta is in the Champions League, and having played in the Champions League in past seasons, I wanted to carry that on. That was something huge that really caught my attention.`
With two of Italy`s highest-scoring sides battling it out, US talent on display, and implications for the top of the table, this promises to be an absorbing match. This is just the beginning of a weekend that will also see Inter travel to Sardinia to face Cagliari, before Milan wraps up the weekend against league leaders Napoli.

Arsenal Secures Superstar Talent
In the Premier League, a significant development occurred with reports confirming that William Saliba is set to sign a new five-year contract with Arsenal. This is a crucial piece of business for the Gunners, potentially more impactful than many of their summer signings.
Among the legitimate superstars in Mikel Arteta`s squad, Saliba had always seemed the most likely to consider a departure. This was not solely due to perceived past tensions between Saliba and Arteta before the defender established himself in the team, but also because of persistent rumors linking him with a move to Real Madrid. The possibility of him leaving on a free transfer in the coming years, should contract negotiations stall, was a genuine concern.
Instead, Arsenal has secured the future of one of the game`s best young center-backs through 2030. This follows similar extensions for Gabriel Magalhaes, with Bukayo Saka`s negotiation expected to be more straightforward given his stated desire to win silverware with Arsenal.
News of Saliba`s extension comes at an opportune time, ahead of Arsenal`s marquee Premier League fixture against Newcastle. High pressure moments have been a theme for Arsenal this season, perhaps more than Arteta would prefer, and the team could be several points off the top of the table if rivals secure wins. However, recent seasons have shown that Saliba and his teammates tend to deliver under such pressure.
