Daren Sammy calls Ackeem Auguste `a player for the future`.

Ackeem Auguste has received his maiden One-Day International (ODI) call-up for the West Indies, joining the squad for the white-ball tour of Bangladesh scheduled for the second half of October. He steps in as a replacement for Evin Lewis, who has been sidelined with a wrist injury.

Khary Pierre, who recently debuted in Test cricket during the first match against India in Ahmedabad this month, has been recalled to the ODI squad as the third specialist spinner, alongside Gudakesh Motie and all-rounder Roston Chase. Alick Athanaze also makes a comeback to the squad, having last played an ODI in December of the previous year.

Head coach Daren Sammy commented on Auguste`s selection, stating in a CWI statement, “The selection of Ackeem reflects the pathway Cricket West Indies is creating for our emerging players who have shown the qualities to perform at the international level. He is a player for the future, one who has progressed from Under-15s to the senior level, and another Academy graduate to feature in an international squad this year.”

Shamar Joseph, who, along with Alzarri Joseph, missed the Test tour of India due to an undisclosed injury, has been named in both the ODI and T20I squads. Gudakesh Motie, another player rested from the India Test tour to manage his workload ahead of next year`s T20 World Cup, also returns to the team.

The Bangladesh series marks the West Indies` penultimate international fixture of the year. Sammy highlighted the significance of the upcoming series, stating, “The squad assembled will strive to maintain a winning mentality and strong team cohesion, essential components for long-term success ahead of the World Cup. Facing Bangladesh provides another opportunity to earn crucial points in our push for automatic qualification to the showpiece event.”

For the T20 International matches, left-arm fast bowler Ramon Simmonds and Amir Jangoo have been added to the squad. Jangoo will serve as the reserve wicketkeeper-batter to captain Shai Hope, while Simmonds` selection reflects his consistent progress, highlighted by taking 13 wickets for Barbados Royals in CPL 2025 and an impressive 4 for 15 in only his second T20I against Nepal last month.

In an initiative described by Cricket West Indies (CWI) as “a concerted effort to provide players with valuable exposure to subcontinent conditions in advance of the series,” Gudakesh Motie, Keacy Carty, Sherfane Rutherford, Ackeem Auguste, and Amir Jangoo will undertake training at the Chennai Super Kings Academy prior to the Bangladesh tour.

CWI Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, elaborated on the importance of this preparation: “With the 2026 T20 World Cup around the corner, it is important for our players to get as much practice as possible in these conditions, with that tournament being held in India and Sri Lanka. In addition to the important aspect of acclimatisation, the camp will feature skill and tactical training and development specific to those conditions, which is critical to preparing the players ahead of this series as well as next year`s World Cup.”

The tour of Bangladesh will commence with three One-Day Internationals in Dhaka on October 18, 21, and 23. This will be followed by three T20 Internationals in Chattogram on October 27, 29, and 31.
