Why Ghilardi’s Transfer to Roma Demands Over €12 Million

Football & Cricket

Daniele Ghilardi remains a prominent transfer target for AS Roma. However, Verona recently rejected Roma`s initial offer of €9 million plus performance-based bonuses. The primary reason for this refusal stems from Verona`s financial obligation to Fiorentina, which is entitled to 50 percent of any future sale fee for the player.

The talented defender has been on the Giallorossi`s radar for some time, with coach Gian Piero Gasperini expressing strong appreciation for his abilities and a keen desire to further develop the Italy Under-21 international. Despite Roma`s initial bid, it was deemed insufficient to secure Ghilardi`s transfer.

Verona`s High Asking Price for Ghilardi

Hellas Verona is now seeking at least €11-12 million, in addition to further add-ons. They cannot afford to lower their demands, as doing so would leave them with a minimal net profit from the transaction. This situation arises because of a clause from Ghilardi`s €380,000 move from Fiorentina`s youth academy in 2022, which dictates that 50 percent of his future sale proceeds must be paid to the Viola.

A potential solution to this transfer conundrum could involve Roma integrating youth player Luigi Cherubini into an improved proposal to satisfy Verona`s valuation, potentially paving the way for the deal to proceed.
