Wrexham is reportedly targeting Rennes midfielder Jordan James, according to information from L’Équipe. The 21-year-old Welsh international, who has already earned 20 caps for his country, could be set for a swift return to the UK just a year after his move to Ligue 1. James transferred to Rennes from Birmingham City last summer but has found it challenging to secure a prominent role in Brittany, prompting the French club to consider his departure.
Owned by Hollywood co-chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, newly-promoted Championship side Wrexham is reportedly negotiating with Rennes for a deal valued at approximately €5 million. The Welsh club aims to bolster its midfield options as it prepares for its first season back in England`s second tier since 2004.
Beyond Wrexham, James is also attracting interest from other clubs. Serie A outfit Parma is said to be pursuing a loan arrangement with an option to buy, while an additional, unnamed Championship club is also engaged in discussions. Although the midfielder remains under contract with Rennes until 2028, a transfer this summer appears increasingly likely.
