According to a source, Shaheen Afridi may lose his place as Pakistan’s captain before the T20 World Cup.  According to a local source, Shaheen Afridi’s leadership of the Pakistan cricket team is said to be questioned ahead of this year’s World Cup Two Lahore Qalandars poor performance during the Pakistan Super League (PSL). 

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly sought advice to recommend changes in the captain. Some stakeholders say that if Shaheen is 23, he may not have the maturity required for the role. But others are wary of making such a decision so close to the World Cup, fearing it could hurt team morale and performance.

Ultimately, the final decision rests with the chairman. If indeed Mohammad Rizwan emerges as a possible candidate to replace Shaheen, although former captain Babar Azam is also considered a contender.

After replacing Babar Azam as T20 captain in November of last year, Shaheen has had a mixed record. Pakistan has only won one of the five tournaments that he has overseen. Remarkably, Shaheen’s Lahore Qalandars squad won two PSL championships in 2022 and 2023.

The 2024 T20 World Cup calendar will be split into two halves prior to playing, and the much-awaited Pakistan-India match is scheduled to take place on June 9 at Eisenhower Park in New York. June 1st is the commencement of the competition.
