Afridi Becomes the Fastest Pakistani Bowler to 100 Wickets & 3rd Fastest Overall

Shaheen Shah Afridi has been phenomenal since his debut in Sep 2018 against AFG. He his proving his intellectual bowling display and improving his stats day by day. In the on going match 31 of ICC Men’s CWC 2023 Afridi becomes the fastest man to rhea 100 wickets in just 51 matches. He break the long held record of Spin Wizard Saqlain Mushtaq who got his 100th in 53 matches.

The left-arm fast bowler who struggled in the initial games of ICC CWC23 has been bounced back strongly against South Africa in his last game where he took 3 wickets. Further, the Paksitan pace bowling looks off-colour since Naseem’s injury in the Asia Cup. But the boys in Green are putting their heart out to remain in the contest as they have lost 4 consecutive games so far.

Sandeep Lamichhane is the quickest to 100 ODI wickets. He achieved this feat in just 43 innings bowling 2202 balls with a strike rate of 22.02. The second on the list is Afghan’s leggy Rashid Khan who marked his 100 wickets in just 44 innings with the least balls. He’s bowled just 2139 with strike rate of 21.39 whilst Mitchell Starc got to his 100th ODI wicket in his 52nd match where he bowled 2452 balls. 

In the fast bowling department, Shaheen Afridi has become the fastest among the quicks to 100 ODI wickets in his 51st match against Bangladesh. The left-hand quick has the 5th best career strike rate of 25.24 he has got 102 wickets after his 51st match averaging 22.82. Further, he has been the 8th fastest to 50 ODI wickets but he has shown some brilliant guts in order to enter into the race of the fastest to 100 ODI wickets.

Afridi is also the 8th youngest player to take five-fer in an innings. Moreover, he is on the 1st when it comes to most consecutive four-wickets-in-an-innings with 3 consecutive four-fers. During his brief 5-year ODI Career, Shaheen has bowled 2575 balls conceding 2328 runs and grabbed 102 wickets at an economy of 5.42. His Best ODI Innings figure also comes against BAN at Lords in ICC CWC19 where he got  6 for 35. 

Shaheen Shah Afridi is the joint-highest wicket taker of the ICC CWC23 too. He stands on top in the leading wicket taker of the CWC23 with 16 wickets together with Australian Adam Zampa.
