As the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 approaches, Mohammad Kaif criticizes India's fielding

As the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 approaches, Mohammad Kaif criticizes India’s fielding. After sweeping Australia by five wickets in the opening ODI, Team India has risen to the top of the recently released ICC ODI Rankings. The Men in Blue have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series following an outstanding victory. However, Mohammad Kaif, a former Indian cricketer, has expressed grave concerns over India’s subpar fielding attempts, particularly in light of the crucial ICC ODI World Cup 2023 that will start at home next month.

The Indian team has undoubtedly been deemed to be pretty ordinary on the field, as evidenced throughout the recently finished Asia Cup 2023 winning campaign in Sri Lanka and in the first ODI match against Australia on Friday.

There are undoubtedly some severe issues with both the general catching efforts and ground fielding. During the first ODI between India and Australia, which was played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, many Indian players, particularly wicket-keeper and acting captain KL Rahul, missed several significant opportunities.

Mohammad Kaif, a former Indian cricketer, believes that India’s subpar fielding catching attempts could cost them in the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023. He believed that the team needed to play well in all three areas, bowling, batting, and fielding—in order to win games.

India’s ODI World Cup 2023 campaign will get underway against Australia on October 8 in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Australia is a five-time defending champion. On the other hand, the second ODI will now be played between India and the visiting Australian squad at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on September 24, 2023.

If India doesn’t catch well, they risk losing the World Cup. In addition to batting and bowling, catches may also win games, according to former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif.
