The board of La Liga club Athletic Club has finalized the contract terms for their incoming head coach.
This development comes as Edin Terzić is confirmed to be taking over the coaching responsibilities in Bilbao.
It has been widely known for some time that a change in management was anticipated at Athletic Club this summer.
Following Ernesto Valverde’s announcement of his departure at the end of the current season, club officials were tasked with finding a successor to lead the team into a new era.
Terzić emerged as the leading candidate for the position, despite being without a club since his departure from Borussia Dortmund in 2024.
As previously indicated, Athletic appears to have secured their preferred candidate this week.
According to journalist and European football insider Florian Plettenberg:
“Edin Terzić to Athletic Bilbao – a done deal. Terzić will assume the role of new head coach for the upcoming season. A full agreement has been reached with the 43-year-old former BVB manager. He will succeed Ernesto Valverde, with a contract extending until 2028.”

The board at La Liga club Athletic Club has reached an agreement on the terms of a contract with the team’s next head coach.
This confirmation follows the news that Edin Terzić is set to take his place on the touchline in Bilbao.
It has long been common knowledge that a change was planned for the dugout at Athletic Club this summer.
After Ernesto Valverde announced his intention to step down at the end of the season, the management at San Mamés was tasked with finding a replacement to guide the club into a new chapter.
The aforementioned Terzić was quickly identified as the frontrunner for the post, despite having been out of work since leaving Borussia Dortmund in 2024.
And as hinted at above, this week, Athletic appears to have secured their man.
According to a report from journalist and European football insider Florian Plettenberg:
“Edin Terzić to Athletic Bilbao – done deal. Terzić will become the new head coach next season. Full agreement with the 43-year-old former BVB manager. He will replace Ernesto Valverde. Contract until 2028.”
