Another prominent first-team player from Barcelona has secured a spot in the upcoming World Cup. Frenkie de Jong has been officially named in the Netherlands’ squad for the prestigious tournament.
The midfielder has experienced a mixed season in Catalonia during 2025/26. Recurring fitness issues limited the former Ajax player’s starts in less than half of Barcelona’s matches across La Liga and the Champions League.
While De Jong generally performed well when on the pitch, his position in Hansi Flick’s midfield pecking order slipped in the latter stages of the season. However, these setbacks have not affected his crucial role in the Dutch national team.
As announced via social media on Wednesday, De Jong has been selected by Ronald Koeman for the Oranje’s 2026 World Cup campaign.
