Barcelona Youngster Patricio Pacífico Faces Year-Long Layoff After Knee Surgery

Barcelona starlet Patricio Pacífico is facing a significant period on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for a severe knee injury earlier this week.

Pacífico, who joined Barcelona in January on loan from Uruguayan club Defensor Sporting, had recently established himself as a regular in the starting lineup for Barça Atlètic, the club’s reserve team. The 19-year-old versatile left-back/centre-back had begun to impress with his developing talent.

However, his promising progress was halted late last month when he suffered a knee injury, later diagnosed as an ACL tear. Barcelona confirmed the news on their social media platforms on Monday, stating: “Barça Atlètic player Patricio Pacifico underwent successful surgery on Monday for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury he sustained during a match against UE Olot on April 19. The expected recovery time will be about 12 months.”

This serious injury now casts uncertainty over Pacífico’s future at Barcelona beyond the summer transfer window.
