Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, corroborated by L’Équipe, indicate that Serie A club Atalanta is keenly observing Marseille`s forward, Jonathan Rowe. They believe he aligns well with the tactical system of their new coach, Ivan Jurić.
However, competition for Rowe`s signature is emerging. Premier League teams Bournemouth and Leeds United have also shown interest, potentially paving the way for his return to English football, where he previously gained recognition in the Championship.
Atalanta is actively seeking a dynamic and direct wide player, possibly as a replacement for Lookman, who is reportedly in discussions for a transfer to Inter Milan. With over €100 million in player sales already secured, partly due to Mateo Retegui`s departure, Atalanta possesses strong financial capacity to pursue this acquisition promptly.
Rowe moved to Marseille from Norwich City last summer for approximately €15 million. Despite limited playing time under Roberto De Zerbi in his inaugural Ligue 1 season (contributing 3 goals and 3 assists in 28 appearances), the England U21 international retains significant market appeal. Marseille is reportedly looking to fetch around €20 million if they decide to sell him, having initially paid €16 million to finalize his permanent transfer to Provence.
Next season, Rowe, alongside Neal Maupay, might face reduced playing opportunities due to the anticipated arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (36) and Feyenoord winger Igor Paixão (25). L’Équipe suggests Rowe could start in August but might become a secondary option once the new Brazilian signing fully integrates.
Rowe`s market value remains high, boosted by a notable goal at the U21 Euros and an impressive pre-season, which included a finely executed equalizer against Valencia recently.
