Bad News for New Zealand Fans as Kane Williamson will miss the opener of the ICC World Cup 2023 against England. He is in the process of rehabilitation and will probably be available for the team in their second World Cup 2023 against the Netherlands. But, Strangely, he will participate in the warm-up vs Pakistan as a specialist batter. He is also likely to participate in his second warm-up outing against South Africa fully.
According to the New Zealand team management, “Coach Gary Stead said the priority was ensuring Williamson had time to progress his return to match fitness”.
He further said that “Williamson will play as a batsman-only in today’s first warm-up match against Pakistan in Hyderabad, with the aim of batting and fielding in Monday’s second and final warm-up against South Africa in Trivandrum.”

“His recovery is tracking well, and it’s now a matter of making sure he can cope with the rigours and intensity of international cricket.
“We’ll continue to take a day by day approach to Kane’s rehabilitation and certainly won’t be putting any pressure on him to return before he is ready.”
These statements look promising. But the question is that, if Kane is not match fit, then playing today’s game and the next warm-up match increases the problem that could lead to ruling him out of the ICC World Cup 2023.
