'He is just a freak' - Jasprit Bumrah gets hailed by Michael Clarke ahead of IND vs NZ Final in Ahmedabad
Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has lauded Jasprit Bumrah's significant contribution to the Indian team, particularly ahead of their T20 World Cup final against New Zealand. The highly anticipated match is set to take place on Sunday, March 8, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Clarke emphasized that Bumrah's exceptional skill set and remarkable mental strength make him a pivotal player for the Men in Blue. The World Cup-winning skipper believes the 32-year-old pacer will be the differentiating factor in the crucial Ahmedabad clash and even backed him to secure the Player of the Match accolade.
"It’s one thing to possess numerous variations, but crucially, it’s having the ability to execute them under immense pressure. This is precisely what makes him the world's best. He has been a defining element for India. I wouldn't be surprised if he is named Man of the Match in the final. He's simply too dominant," Clarke remarked on the Beyond23 podcast.
Clarke further added, "Bumrah is just a freak. Across all three formats, he is, by far, the most critical player globally. He's a match-winner. He bowls the toughest overs, he's a run-saving machine, a wicket-taker, and his execution under pressure surpasses anyone else in world cricket."
Bumrah played a pivotal role in India's semi-final victory over England at the Wankhede Stadium. His outstanding spell during the death overs, where he conceded only 14 runs from two overs, effectively stifled batsmen like Jacob Bethell and Sam Curran. This crucial performance ultimately led to the hosts' narrow seven-run win.
Bumrah's Stellar Performance in the T20 World Cup
Leading up to the showpiece final, Bumrah has already claimed 10 wickets in the tournament, boasting an incredible economy rate of just 6.62. Averaging 15.90, the Ahmedabad-born pacer's best figures of 3 for 15 came against South Africa in a Super Eight clash at the same venue where the final will be played. Despite his stellar bowling efforts, India faced a considerable 76-run defeat after being dismissed for only 111 runs in that particular game.
Throughout his distinguished T20I career, Bumrah has featured in a total of 94 matches, taking 117 wickets at an astonishing economy rate of 6.55.
