Irfan Pathan Hails Gautam Gambhir's Resilience in India's T20 World Cup 2026 Victory
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has lauded national coach Gautam Gambhir for skillfully guiding the team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2026. Under Gambhir's leadership, the Indian squad secured the coveted multi-nation trophy on March 8, defeating New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Following India's historic win, Pathan praised his former teammate, highlighting Gambhir's exceptional coaching prowess. Pathan emphasized Gambhir's resilience, noting that despite facing significant criticism, he steadfastly pursued his vision for the team.
"Gautam Gambhir endured substantial criticism, much of which felt unwarranted. However, his ability to manage himself and persistently advance his vision, even when circumstances appeared challenging, was truly impressive. While the players undoubtedly deserve full credit for their performance, Gambhir's strong man-management skills and his success in extracting the best from them were equally crucial," Pathan stated on his YouTube channel.
Pathan further highlighted the effective rapport between Coach Gambhir and Captain Suryakumar Yadav. He described their partnership as instrumental, with Yadav frequently seeking guidance from the former India opener—a dynamic that significantly contributed to the team's success.
"It was a regular sight to see Surya communicating with Gautam Gambhir through signals from the field," Pathan added. "Even during today's powerplay, after Jasprit Bumrah had bowled one over, Surya signaled to Gautam about giving him another. Consequently, Bumrah bowled two overs in the powerplay. This consistent communication exemplifies their strong understanding."
Concluding his remarks, Pathan praised the duo: "Outstanding work from Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav as a leader. Their management and guidance of this team have been remarkable. India has clinched another trophy, becoming world champions for the third time. Well done, Team India!"
Appointed as India's head coach in July 2024, Gambhir has overseen a varied period, marked by two significant ICC white-ball titles: the Champions Trophy 2025 and the T20 World Cup 2026.
