Suryakumar Yadav: Jasprit Bumrah is a 'National Treasure'
India's victorious T20 World Cup captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has lavished praise on premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, labeling him a "national treasure." This acclaim follows Bumrah's pivotal Player of the Match display in the recent T20 World Cup 2026 final, which was instrumental in India's emphatic 96-run triumph over New Zealand to secure their third T20 World Cup title.
"As Sanju remarked in the previous match, he wished to dedicate his Man-of-the-Match award to Boom [Jasprit Bumrah]. He is truly a once-in-a-generation bowler, someone I consider a national treasure at this moment. He inherently understands the requirements, knows precisely how to execute them, and is undeniably the best in the business. My hope is that he continues this extraordinary form," Suryakumar Yadav conveyed.
Throughout the tournament, the formidable fast bowler concluded with 14 wickets, a tally shared as the highest, maintaining an outstanding average of 12.42. His exceptional economy rate of 6.21 further emphasized the immense challenge batsmen faced in attempting to score freely against him.
Bumrah's displays in both the semi-finals and the grand final were particularly significant. His spell of 1/33 against England was a deciding factor, enabling India to clinch a narrow seven-run victory while defending a colossal total of 254. Even with Jacob Bethell's impressive efforts, Bumrah's masterful control ensured he conceded only 14 runs in his final two overs, dramatically swinging the momentum back to India.
His phenomenal figures of 4/15 in the final completely dismantled the New Zealand innings. This paved the way for India to secure their third T20 World Cup championship, making them the inaugural team to successfully defend the championship and the first host nation to claim the coveted trophy.
Suryakumar Yadav further commended Bumrah’s outstanding contributions and the substantial leadership role he embraced as a veteran player, alongside Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel.
"It is incredibly important to grasp their true potential, and I always recognized the match-winning capabilities within them. Sanju's entry at that moment was perfectly timed. We consistently knew that players like Varun Chakravarthy and Abhishek Sharma, who are world No. 1s, possessed unique talents, and there's no grander platform than a final to showcase them. Moreover, the performances of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel, who have been seasoned campaigners for a significant duration, and their collaborative efforts with the entire support staff, were truly extraordinary," he elaborated.
