Tilak Varma, according to former Indian selector MSK Prasad, might be a valuable addition to India’s team for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup and Asia Cup.
Prasad stated that the hitter has a 50% conversion rate for scoring hundreds, using an example from his List-A career.
“Check out his Hyderabad List A record. He has 25 List-A games under his belt, with an average of over 55. fifty-five and a half centuries. It implies that he is turning fifty into a hundred at least half the time. An over 100 percent strike rate,” MSK Prasad told PTI.
If we consider the Indian team’s existing dynamics, the notion makes some sense. Due to an injury, Shreyas Iyer, who was once a reliable middle-order hitter for India, faces some uncertainty. Suryakumar Yadav, who was put to the test to replace Iyer, has utterly failed to demonstrate his mettle in the ODI format.
“As long as Shreyas (Iyer) is unable to go, it won’t be a horrible idea. You can only consider Varma after that. But I’m confident that going forward, he will play white ball regularly for India across all forms,” MSK Prasad continued.
