ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 :Crucial position is still up for grabs in the qualifier play-off

In ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 :Crucial position is still up for grabs in the qualifier play-off. With only two more matchdays left, The USA, UAE, Canada, Namibia, and Jersey could all still clinch a crucial top-two spot in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Qualification Play-off.

With only four matches remaining in the current event, the top two teams in the final standings will advance to the next stage Qualification, which will be contested in Zimbabwe in June and July.

The number of points each team gets will determine their position in the final standings of the Qualification Play-off, with two points awarded for a victory and one point provided to each team in the event of a tie, an undetermined outcome, or an abandoned match.

USA

After back-to-back victory over the UAE and PNG, the USA put themselves in the driver’s seat, but they still need to defeat Jersey in their last ODI to be certain of maintaining a top-two spot.

The USA, where teams finish tied on points, may depend on the current leaders in the Qualifier Play-offs’ victories over Namibia and the UAE, two other teams vying for the top two spots.

The early setback to Canada is still a concern, though, since it’s possible that the two neighbours from North America may tie for first place in the final standings and surpass the United States on head-to-head results.

However, the USA presently has the highest net run rate in the competition, putting them in a good position to advance to the qualifier regardless of how the rest of the field performs.

United Arab Emirates

The UAE are in a position similar to that of the USA; they have two victories under their belts after losing their second match of the Qualification Play-off, and like the leaders, they just have a match against Jersey remaining.

Despite having wins over Canada and Namibia that may be significant in head-to-head comparisons, the UAE may still be regretting their five-wicket loss to the USA as the race for first place becomes more competitive.

The UAE’s top aim against Jersey will be to secure the two points, but they will also want to increase their net run rate in order to move ahead of Namibia and Canada in what might be a crucial statistic.

Canada

The tournament surprise packs, one of two teams that still have two matches to play at the Qualification Play-off, are the only ones in control of whether they advance to the next round.

Canada got off to a quick start that included a thrilling victory over the USA. This victory over their rivals may be important in the head-to-head calculations for the Qualifier.

Canada’s best chance of placing in the Zimbabwe tournament is with convincing victories over the event’s hosts Namibia and the ineffective PNG, especially if they can increase their net run rate to surpass the UAE in that equation.

The hosts of the competition underwhelmed, winning just two of their four games while losing the other two. As a result, their chances of making it to the qualifying round are now in jeopardy.

Jersey

The ODI debutants defeated PNG by 11 runs in their last Qualification Play-off match, securing a historic breakthrough victory that also kept their hopes of a shocking top-two finish alive.

To advance, the young Jersey lineup must defeat the USA and UAE’s top two teams, but if they succeed, they will undoubtedly merit a berth in the Qualification for the next stage.

While they are already certain to finish ahead of PNG in the Qualification Play-off rankings and the secondary event within the event, Jersey will also be keeping an eye on catching up to the UAE and Canada to snag a CWC League 2 spot for the following cycle.

After four defeats, including a crushing defeat by the USA by 117 runs in their most recent encounter, PNG has underperformed at the Qualification Play-off.

Papua New Guinea

PNG will no longer be eligible for a position in the qualifier tournament, the CWC League 2, or ODI status during the upcoming cycle due to the demoralising streak.

This occurs as PNG is one of four teams vying for two spots in the upcoming League 2 tournament, along with the UAE, Jersey, Canada, and each of the Challenge League champions. PNG is one of the bottom two League 2 teams.
