ICC World Cup 2023: On the first day, the ticket app and website crash; angry fans respond on Twitter. The first day of ticket sales was set aside for games against nations other than India, including warm-up games. However, the process began at 8 o’clock local time, and shortly thereafter, fans complained that the ‘Bookmyshow’ application had crashed because of the rush to purchase tickets. Starting on October 5, “Bookmyshow” will be the official ticket provider for the World Cup.

The website began to function a half-hour into the ticket sales, but by that time some of the fans had run out of patience. “Ticket sales for games against nations other than India began at 8 PM. The BookMyShow app has crashed as of 8:08 PM. Indian cricket. I’m curious as to what will happen when India’s game tickets go on sale,” wrote Nilesh G on X, formerly Twitter.

The coveted tickets for the Indo-Pak blockbuster in Ahmedabad will go on sale on September 3, while the sales for the India games in Chennai, Delhi, and Pune will begin on August 31.

To give fans a smooth experience, the BCCI and ICC chose a staggered sale process. “This is the level of World Cup readiness @bookmyshow has! Sorry @ICC, but it appears that your ticketing partners are simply not up to the task, wrote Arka Dyuti Palit, another user of X.

“This is extremely frustrating if the fundamental systems infrastructure is not in place after such a delayed announcement of ticket sales, it speaks very poorly of the mighty BCCI and ICC. These kinds of events are planned all over the world, and systems like lotteries and ticket lines are typical.

Why are those not prepared for such a big event? asked fan Atirav Kapur, who is based in Delhi, to PTI on Friday. For the first ODI World Cup in India since 2011, the fans have already criticised the organisers for the way they handled ticket sales and the schedule. After announcing the complete schedule in June, the BCCI and ICC revised the schedule earlier this month, changing the times of up to nine games.
