Olympique Lyonnais has reportedly ceased negotiations and ended their efforts to sign Pierre Lees-Melou (32) from fellow Ligue 1 club Brest. Despite having reached an agreement on personal terms with the former Norwich City midfielder, who was eager for the prospect of playing in the Europa League after his Champions League experience with Eric Roy’s squad, the transfer faced insurmountable obstacles.
The main stumbling block was Brest`s rejection of three transfer bids from Lyon, with the final offer reportedly amounting to €5.5 million. Given the strict financial constraints imposed by the DNCG (French football`s financial watchdog), Lyon is unable to overspend under any circumstances. Consequently, the club has withdrawn from discussions and informed both Brest and Lees-Melou of their decision to explore alternative transfer targets.
Lyon is now expected to intensify its pursuit of Liverpool`s defensive midfielder, Tyler Morton. The young England youth international is reportedly keen on a move to Les Gones, who are anticipated to submit their initial bid to the Premier League club soon.
