Mitchell Marsh's Maiden Fifty in the ICC World Cup 2023 Against Sri Lanka

Mitchell Marsh was under pressure as there was no performance from his bat in this World Cup in the first two innings against India and South Africa. He was looking off-color in those two innings but he played a brilliant inning against the inexperienced Sri Lankan bowling lineup. Today he played with a purpose. He started smashing bowlers right from the word go. He made 52 runs facing 51 balls with an over 100 run strike rate. His inning includes 9 fours. This inning will boost his confidence.

Sri Lankan won the toss and decided to put a total on the board. They started well and both the opener scored fifties for a 100+ first-wicket partnership. Things were looking very easy for Sri Lanka when Nissanka and Parrea of the crease. But as soon as both openers went down the rest of the batters couldn’t show any resistance and the inning collapsed. At one stage they were 157 for the loss and wicket and ended up with 209 for all out.

The out-of-form Adam Zampa bowled brilliantly. He took 4 wickets for 47 runs in his 8 overs spell. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc also took two wickets each. A good overall performance from the Australian pace and spin bowlers. They restricted Sri Lanka to a moderate total of 209 which won’t be challenging for the Australian at all.
