AS Monaco`s prolonged search for a new primary goalkeeper throughout the summer transfer window appears to be reaching a definitive conclusion. Recent reports suggest that the Principality club is on the verge of finalizing an agreement with German side Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of the experienced Finnish goalkeeper, Lukas Hradecky, aged 35.
The necessity for a new first-choice custodian was articulated by Monaco`s CEO, Thiago Scuro, at the outset of the summer. He indicated that the club`s current goalkeeping options, Philipp Köhn and Radoslaw Majecki, had not demonstrated the long-term consistency required. Over the past months, Monaco explored various potential targets, including Djordje Petrovic and Marcin Bulka, both of whom have since completed moves to other clubs. Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea was also reportedly on their radar, though a transfer to Monaco did not materialize.
With other options pursued unsuccessfully, Monaco has intensified its focus on acquiring Hradecky. Although Bayer Leverkusen initially sought a fee of €4 million and rejected Monaco`s opening bid of €2 million, negotiations have progressed significantly. A deal between the two clubs is now understood to be imminent. Hradecky himself has expressed a clear desire for a new challenge, particularly following the arrival of fellow goalkeeper Mark Flekken at the Bundesliga club, which has seemingly paved the way for his potential departure.
