The opening match of ICC’s Cricket WC23 transforms Jonny Bairstow a bit as he opt out of Bazball-strategy. He plays sensibly in the 1st power play but Santer traps him in his 4th over when ENG are 64/2. Bairstow leaves the ground after scoring 33 off 35 striking at 94. His cameo includes four 4s and one 6. Next comes Harry Brook who was quite aggressive from the beginning of his turn.

England complete team 100 in the 18th over but Rachin removes Brook when he is looking quite set. Brook goes for 25 off 16 striking the ball at 156 smashing four 4s and one 6. Moin Ali comes to the middle for resuming the 1st innings for England in the first match of CWC23, India.

England continue losing wickets at regular intervals and this time Moin Ali who tries for a back foot pull is bowled by Glenn Phillips on 118 in 22nd. Captain himself joins the squad to get over NZ bowlers who are tightening the screws time and again.

NZ spinners bowl very tigh line and length and never let Buttler and Root to open their shoulders. But ICC WC23’s 4th six comes from Buttler’s bat. Buttler plays his part but gives away his wicket to Henry when he tries to angle the ball down to the third man but ends up getting in the hands of Latham.

Livingston joins sturdy Root for the nex 17 overs compaign but disappoints his partner as he leaves for the dugout in the 39th over after scoring 20 off 22.

Summarily, England steal 173 runs in the 2nd powerplay (11-40) at the rate of 5.77. They lose 5 wickets in this phase as Bairstow, Brook, Moin, Buttler and Livingston go for 33, 25, 11, 43 and 20 respectively. NZ use 6 bowlers in the 2nd power play with Matt Henry striking again for NZ besides Rachin, Santner, Boult and Phillips getting one wicket each. The strict bowling discipline can be seen here as NZ only bowl one wide within the whole 30 overs.

It’s Root who is undefeated as he scores 74 off 82 striking the ball at 90 when we enter into the final phase of the innings. England smash fourteen 4s and four 6s in this interval too of the ICC Men’s CWC 2023. This is the brief summary of 2nd Power play Match 01, ICC Cricket Worldcup 2023, India.
