On February 6, the Pakistan Cricket Board will convene to choose a new chairman

On February 6, the Pakistan Cricket Board will convene to choose a new chairman. In order to choose a new full-time chairman, the Board of Governors (BoG) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will meet on February 6. This decision is the result of Zaka Ashraf’s resignation as the head of the PCB on January 19, shortly before his most recent temporary chairmanship extension came to an end.

Mohsin Naqvi, the interim chief minister of Punjab, has become a strong candidate for the chairmanship after being proposed to the BoG by the PCB’s backer. The BoG has been called into a special meeting by Election Commissioner Mr. Shah Khawar to conduct the chairman’s election, which is set for Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.

This upcoming election will bring an end to the extended stretch of time more than a year without a duly elected chairman. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated Ramiz Raja to the position in September 2021; however, in December 2022, Khan’s successor fired Raja. Najam Sethi, a Pakistani writer and journalist, took over the position after that, however she quit in June 2023 after just six months because of political reasons.

In July 2023, Zaka Ashraf assumed the position of acting chairman after to Sethi’s exit. Nevertheless, Ashraf’s mandate to complete the BoG and hold chairman elections within four months was not met, even after a three-month extension was given in November.

Stakeholders expect a new chapter in Pakistan cricket administration as the PCB gets ready to pick a new chairman, and they are counting on stability and capable leadership to meet the opportunities and difficulties that lie ahead.
