Pakistani media slams Babar’s team in the match against Afghanistan, calling it “embarrassing.” On Monday, Afghanistan made history by defeating Pakistan in one of the most anticipated victories in One-Day Internationals. After putting up a terrific display with the bat and the ball, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team lost by eight wickets in Chepauk.

Pakistan achieved a target of 283 runs for the Afghan side while batting first in Chennai. However, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Ibrahim Zadran (87), and Rahmat Shah (77) of Afghanistan’s batting team easily managed to chase down the target, leaving the Men in Green completely taken aback.

Pakistani media responds to the startling loss of Babar Azam and Co., saying that the triumph for Afghanistan coincides with a period of strained diplomatic and political ties between the two neighbors. Pakistan’s fielding was careless as they gave up simple boundaries, allowing openers Zadran and Gurbaz to lead their team to 100 in the sixteenth over.” DAWN said.

In an interview, former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar responded to the Men in Green’s defeat at the hands of their neighbors by saying, “A better team has won today.” I literally lack the words to express how I feel about this.

“You know it was embarrassing today, making 280-290 runs while losing just 2 wickets is a big score whatever the pitch conditions,” Wasim Akram, a different former veteran of Pakistan, said to Pakistan’s A Sports.

“Observe our athletes’ level of fitness. It has been our contention for the past two years that Pakistani players have not been subjected to a fitness test. You guys are paid professionally to play for your country, so there should be some sort of test, and there should be some requirements.” Added Akram.
