Shoaib Akhtar Publicly Blasted The ICC for Refusing to Play with India

Shoaib Akhtar publicly blasted the ICC for refusing to play with India. The 2023 ICC World Cup, which determines the world cricket champion, will begin on October 5 in India. It is noteworthy because this series will be conducted exclusively on Indian soil for the first time in India’s history, having previously shared hosting duties with nearby nations like Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the years 1987 and 2011.

The best 10 cricket teams in the world, including the reigning champion England and the victorious Australia, will play 48 matches in this series to decide who will take home the trophy. India, which is regarded as the strongest squad at home, will compete with the backing of its own supporters.

Fans are therefore hoping that India would take advantage of this excellent opportunity to win the cup like in 2011 and end the string of losses they will continue to endure in the ICC series after 2013. In order to properly host this world cup, BCCI then began work to modernise the major venues, notably Cheppak in Chennai, where the matches will be played.

Shoaib Akhtar Chadal: In a similar vein, the ICC is currently promoting the World Cup to the public by arranging for it to tour the entire globe. The World Cup was recently held in India, and in the meantime, the ICC issued the promotional advertisement.

Former Indian cricketers Shikhar Dhawan, Jemima Rodriguez, Dinesh Karthik, and Subman Gill made appearances in the 2.13-minute long video in which Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan appears and discusses the history, glory, and honour of the World Cup. The World Cup commercial also included stars like Eoin Morgan and legends like Muttiah Muralitharan and Jonty Rhodes.

From MS Dhoni’s super-finishing six in 2011 to Clive Lloyd winning the trophy for the first time in 1975, the movie features a number of significant World Cup moments. The Pakistani skipper Babar Azam’s face did not show even for a single second in the video, which infuriated the nation’s supporters despite the presence of current great players like Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes. There is not even a single second in the footage of Pakistan winning the World Cup in 1992. No other Pakistani players, including Babar Azam, the top batsman in ODI cricket, are seen in the film other than Shaheen Afridi, who comes in second.

In particular, India has made several efforts recently to stay away from Pakistan after declaring that it will not be travelling there for the 2023 Asia Cup. Shoaib Akhtar, a former Pakistani player, accused the ICC of purposefully disregarding Pakistan by teaming up with India in this video. He stated the following on Twitter:

“Whoever believed that this World Cup marketing wouldn’t be complete without Pakistan and Assam’s Babar was truly painting a ridiculous picture. Friends of Kaman, it’s time to mature. It is notable that the ICC may have taken this action because Pakistan, which has declared that it will not participate in the World Cup staged in India, has not yet made a decision regarding the 2023 Asia Cup.”
