Shoaib Malik speaks out following the cancellation of his BPL contract. In the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024, veteran Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik has spoken out about the issue surrounding his early contract termination with Fortune Barishal. Malik corrected any misinformation regarding his playing status with the team by taking to social networking platform X.
Malik issued a clear statement denying the rumors and wishing Fortune Barishal well in their next matches. He added that, after speaking with team captain Tamim Iqbal, his departure from Bangladesh was caused by a pre-arranged media engagement in Dubai.
Reiterating his dedication to the game of cricket, Malik said he would be happy to help Fortune Barishal if required. In order to prevent confusion and damage to one’s reputation, he also advised exercising caution when handling rumors. He emphasized the significance of finding out information before sharing it and believing it.
Following Malik’s declaration, Fortune Barishal, via franchise owner Mizanur Rahaman, affirmed that they will use Malik’s skills going forward if needed and thanked him for his contributions during his brief time on the squad. Rahaman explained that Malik’s departure was due to personal circumstances and that the team had no grievances with his output.

Malik’s contract was supposed to expire on February 14, but he quit after the third game, saying he wanted to come back on February 6, according to Rahaman. But with three more games slated in Sylhet, the team decided it was not feasible to allow him to return at that time.
Rahaman commended Malik’s efforts in spite of the early departure and asked the team to not let the circumstances get in the way of their next games. He urged everyone not to make a big deal out of the situation and highlighted Malik’s commitment to the squad.
Both Shoaib Malik and Fortune Barishal have released statements that seek to debunk any rumors and provide clarification on the circumstances surrounding Malik’s resignation.
