Two world champions – Australia & Sri Lanka – are meeting today at Lucknow in match No. 14 of ICC Men’s ODI CWC 2023. Both teams yet to win a match in this ICC CWC23. Surprisingly, 5 times world champions, Aussies that stand at the bottom of the table after losing first 2 matches are desperate to open their account in the ICC Men’s Cricket Worldcup. On the other hand, champions of CW96, Sri Lanka, have also lost their initial matches and stand at 8th in the ICC Cricket Worldcup Points Table.

Toss Update

Sri Lankan and Auusies skippers are down to the middle with  for the toss. The Sri Lankan Captain wins the toss and choses to bat first. While the Australian skipper, too, wants to bal first on this flat track that isn’t expected to change much and both aren’t scared of due factor at all.

Unfortunately, Dasun Shanaka is ruled out of the reminder of ICC Men’s CWC23 so Kusal Mendis will be leading the team SL. Sri Lanka bring in Chamika Kuranaratne for Shanaka and Lahiru Kumara for Pathirana.Surprisingly AUS enter with the same combination ans Carey is still out of the playing XI.

The two Lankan openers: Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Parera, are opening the innings for SL and eye at setting a handsome total against the Aussies. Whereas, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazzlewood get the ball in hand for the first power play to resume the 14th match of ICC MEN’s ODI CWC 2023.

Both openers provide a steady start for Sri Lanka. The left-hand & right-hand combination worked for SL. They both look seriously threatening as SL doesn’t lose any wicket in the first power play. SL make 51 for none at the end of first ten. Nissanka makes 22 off 26 while Parera makes 24 off 33. They both hit 8 boundaries in all during this phase.

The 2nd phase of ICC CWC23 Match 14 also proves a big deal for SL as they carry their march against the Aussies. Both openers enjoy batting against the spin and pace attack as they add 63 to the total at 6.30. SL manage to score 124 without losing any wicket. Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka cross their fifties too while AUS bowlers are still in the quest of wickets.

Aussies bounce back with a bang as they quickly grab 4 wickets for just – runs in space of 51 balls. Pat Cummins opens the door for other bowlers after picking 2 quick wickets. Adam Zampa takes full advantage of the under pressure Lankan batters and takes 2 for 2 in order to further damage the SL batting line-up. SL add 42 in the third phase 21-30 for the loss of 4 wickets and seem losing the plot.

After first twenty overs of the innings one can assume that SL might score 350+ but Australian bowlers bounce back with a bang. SL collapse after the wicket of Parera. At one stage they were 157 for 1 at the end of 26 but Pat Cummins a bit deviating delivery open the door for the exit of SL batters. SL only manage 33 runs from 31-40 for the loss of 4 more wickets. 

The 2nd power play and rain interruption totally collapse SL. the batting team only manage 148 runs in the 11-40 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Conclusively, AUS come back in the game after 20th over. From 21-40, they take 8 wickets for 85 runs at 4.25 averaging 10.6.

SL lose the remaining 2 wickets in next three and a half overs. SL are all out  in the game no 14th of CWC23. AUS find the rhythm after their 21st over. At one stage SL were 125/0 and now they are bowled out for 209 in the 4.3 overs. AUS get all ten wickets for 84 runs in space of 21.5 overs.

Zampa strikes again in the final over of the wnd power play. SL are in deep trouble now as Theekshana goes for 0 and SL are 199 for 8 at the end of 40. Mitchell Starc also comes into action with his 54th wicket of the WC and 2nd of the evening. SL are 9 down for 204 after 41. SL are bowled out by AUS in game no 14th of CWC23. Maxwell is the man to pick the final wicket for Kangroos. AUS find the rhythm after their 21st over. At one stage SL were 125/0 and now they are bowled out for 209 in the 4.3 overs. AUS get all ten wickets for 84 runs in space of 21.5 overs.
