Why was Nasum Ahmed’s delivery to Virat Kohli not ruled wide by umpire Richard Kettleborough? The suspense was further enhanced by umpire Richard Kettleborough’s decision to not award a blatant wide when India needed just two runs to win with Kohli batting at 97.

At the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, an otherwise one-sided India vs. Bangladesh World Cup 2023 encounter took on a whole new dimension because to Virat Kohli’s drive to get his century.

In the final stages of India’s chase on Thursday, everything else took a backseat as Kohli refused singles, took one only at the last ball for three straight overs to retain strike, and went for the big knocks to clinch his 48th ODI century. If all of this wasn’t dramatic enough, umpire Richard Kettleborough upped the ante by refusing to call a clear wide.

Umpire Richard Kettleborough increased the suspense by refusing to give a blatant wide when Kohli was batting at 97 and India needed just two runs to win. As if that wasn’t already enough drama.

The match was already settled as India stormed toward the 257-run total with 7 wickets in hand they needed 28 in 12 overs. After Kohli had taken an easy single in the first ball of the 39th over, KL Rahul returned the strike. Rahul will not get the strike again in the game after that. It was not an India-Bangladesh contest for the following 4 overs. Between Kohli and his century, it was a war.

In that over, Kohli picked up the slower ball early and went on to deliver a massive shot after defending a couple of balls from Hasan Mahmud. He used them six to reach 80. To get to his third World Cup century, he needed to score 20 runs.
