2,000–2,200 crore rupees will be made from advertising during the 2023 Cricket World Cup

2,000-2,200 crore rupees will be made from advertising during the 2023 Cricket World Cup. In contrast to the Rs 1,350 crore it did four years ago in the 2019 edition, the forthcoming Men’s Cricket World Cup that India is hosting is predicted to produce Rs 2,000–Rs 2,200 crore in total ad income on TV and digital platforms.

According to a letter from brokerage firm Elara Capital, “We expect the Cricket World Cup to generate INR 20-22bn in ad revenue on TV/digital platforms combined.” The company estimates that internet ad income would more than double from Rs 450 crore in 2019 to Rs 950 crore in this edition, while TV ad revenues are predicted to increase from Rs 900 crore in 2019 to Rs 1,150 crore in 2023.

In an effort to compete with JioCinema, financed by Reliance Industries, which began streaming IPL cricket matches for free in 2023, Disney Star, which currently holds the ICC TV and digital media rights through 2023, has announced that it will stream the matches for free on its Disney+ Hotstar app. The network will also air the matches on the channels on its Star network.

According to Karan Taurani, senior vice-president of Elara Capital, the tournament’s overall viewership is projected to increase as a result of matches starting at 10.30 am or 2 pm IST.  This year, he anticipates a large increase in digital revenue.

The match’s first half may be viewed on OTT due to favorable time. All mobile users will be able to access the World Cup for free via the Disney+ Hotstar app. Expect a 6% CAGR in TV advertising in CY19 compared to the CWC’s previous iteration. According to his remark, the CAGR for the digital medium might reach 21% compared to 2019 levels.

The coveted competition will return to India after a 12-year absence. For the first time, India will serve as the sole host.  It co-hosted it with Pakistan in 1987, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 1996, and Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2011. 10 teams will compete in 48 matches between October and December of 2023.
