ICC World Cup 2023: Eoin Morgan picks England as the second-most likely team to win the tournament, behind India. Eoin Morgan, a former cricketer, emphasised that England is the second favourite to win the coveted ODI World Cup later this year. Given that they are playing at home, Eoin Morgan pointed out that the Indian squad is the tournament favourite.

2019 saw Eoin Morgan lead England to their first-ever ODI World Cup victory. The southpaw led the squad to victory after a dismal showing in the 2015 competition. In the ODI World Cup, the Three Lions will compete as the reigning champions.

The last three ODI World Cups have been won by the host countries, Eoin Morgan noted in a talk with Boria Majumdar.

England has a great team. After India, they will be my second favourite country, but only narrowly. India is the favorite and has a very strong team while playing at home. The last few World Cups have all been like that. England in 2019, India again in 2023, Australia in 2011, and India in 2015, according to Morgan.

The World Cup will be held in India from October 5 to November 19. Each team will compete against the other nine teams in a round-robin style tournament. The top four teams advance to the semifinals.

Eoin Morgan emphazised that playing games around the nation is a challenge for the Jos Buttler-led team. According to Morgan, England possessed a potent squad with outstanding bowlers and batsmen.

“But Jos Buttler and his team have some fantastic batsmen and bowlers, and their talent will make a big difference come the business end of the tournament,” he continued.

“If you ask me to choose my top four, I’ll include Pakistan and Australia. It will be a true test because the games are spread out over the entire nation, and these four clubs have the most depth and variety.”
