Real Madrid, a powerhouse in La Liga, is preparing to say goodbye to their seasoned defender, Dani Carvajal, in the coming weeks.
This decision follows the official confirmation that the club will not be extending the contract of the veteran full-back, whose current deal is set to expire.
According to a statement released by Real Madrid on their website and social media on Monday:
“Real Madrid C.F. and our captain Dani Carvajal have agreed to conclude a remarkable period as a player for our club at the close of the current season.
Real Madrid wishes to convey its deep gratitude and affection to one of the most significant figures in the history of our club and world football.”
Carvajal’s tenure at the Bernabéu will conclude this upcoming weekend in a La Liga match against Athletic Club.
The 34-year-old defender has recently seen his starting position in Madrid taken by summer signing Trent Alexander-Arnold. This, coupled with a history of fitness issues, has led to the mutual decision for the player and the club to part ways this summer.
Carvajal will depart Real Madrid having amassed an impressive 26 titles, placing him among the club’s most decorated players.
