Spanish national team goalkeeper Unai Simón has etched his name into football history with a remarkable achievement during the World Cup clash against Austria.
Simón, a key player for La Roja, recorded his fourth consecutive clean sheet in the tournament, contributing to Spain’s dominant 3-0 victory over their European rivals. This performance secured Spain’s progression to the competition’s Last-16.
The Athletic Club standout’s goalkeeping prowess has now set a new benchmark for the World Cup. According to Spanish statistician Mister Chip, Simón has reached an astounding 518 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal, establishing the longest clean sheet streak for any goalkeeper in the entire history of the World Cup.
This new record surpasses the previous mark held by the legendary Italian goalkeeper Walter Zenga.
