Stadiums that hosted IPL 2023 games did not receive World Cup 2023 Fixtures

Stadiums that hosted IPL 2023 games did not receive World Cup 2023 fixtures. The IPL 2023 will return to a home-and-away format, with the league stage taking place in 12 Indian cities. Eight of the ten teams chose to play their home matches in the same city, however the Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals chose to play in two different cities. The stadiums that are awarded the IPL hosting rights typically have world-class facilities.

However, three of the 12 IPL locations this year were denied the opportunity to host the Cricket World Cup later in October and November. The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune did not host an IPL game this year, but it will host a World Cup event. Here is a list of them.

Punjab Kings played their home matches at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow SuperGiants. The stadium has hosted several notable World Cup events, including the semifinal match between India and Pakistan in 2011 and the Super 10 match between India and Australia in 2016.

Unfortunately, Mohali did not make the list of World Cup 2023 venues, which disappointed Punjab supporters and Punjab Cricket Association executives. However, the BCCI announced that Mohali would host the first ODI of the India-Australia series before the World Cup. In early 2024, Mohali will host a T20I match between India and Afghanistan.

Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium

Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the principal home stadium of the Rajasthan Royals, has not hosted an ICC competition in years. It was not chosen for the 2011 World Cup or the 2016 T20 World Cup. It has now also been eliminated from contention for the 2023 World Cup. RR faced the Lucknow SuperGiants, Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in five IPL 2023 matches in Jaipur. Sawai Mansingh Stadium was not chosen for the major matches or the warm-up round.

Guwahati’s Barsapara Cricket Stadium

The Rajasthan Royals played their first two IPL 2023 home games at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The stadium is stunning and has a good seating capacity. Guwahati was not awarded the chance to host any main round matches of the Cricket World Cup 2023. The big event’s warm-up matches will be held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. It will hold an India vs. England warm-up encounter on September 30, marking the first time Guwahati has hosted a mega event warm-up match.
