Australia legend says India and Pakistan will host the ICC World Cup in 2023

Australia legend says India and Pakistan will host the ICC World Cup in 2023. Glenn McGrath, an Australia icon, forecasted India and Pakistan’s destiny in the 2023 Cricket World Cup, which begins in two months. This is the first time India would host the tournament solely, after previously co-hosting it with neighbouring South Asian countries. The event has been won twice by the hosts, in 1983 and 2011, but they have not won an ICC title since 2013.

McGrath, a three-time World Cup winner with the dominating Australian sides headed by Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, believes India has an advantage because they will be playing in their home conditions.

“You won’t be surprised, Australia is one of the four,” he says, confidently placing Australia among the top four possibilities. India is certainly playing in their own backyard. England is playing terrific cricket, and Pakistan is doing well as well. As a result, they are ranked first through fourth.”

Interestingly, McGrath’s prediction matches that of former England captain Eoin Morgan, who guided England to their first-ever World Cup victory in the previous edition. Morgan views England and India as clear favourites, with Australia and Pakistan as close runners-up.

“I have no doubt that England and India will be present at the tournament’s conclusion.” And the other teams I could see maybe collecting the title are Australia and Pakistan, both of which are extremely strong teams and perennial contenders in major tournaments,” Morgan remarked.

The tournament is set to begin on October 5, with the first game between defending champions England and New Zealand at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
