Paytm is out of the running for the 2023 Cricket World Cup, while BookMyShow has secured the rights to all locations

Paytm is out of the running for the 2023 Cricket World Cup, while BookMyShow has secured the rights to all locations. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken away Paytm’s ticket sales rights for the 2023 50-over World Cup and given them exclusively to BookMyShow, which now has rights in all 12 venues that will stage World Cup games and warm-up contests.

Previously, Paytm was permitted to sell tickets in seven locations, while BookMyShow was permitted to sell tickets in five.

There will be ten World Cup locations, with two additional, Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati  designated only for warm-up matches. Hyderabad is the only location that will hold both warm-up and World Cup matches.

“The vendor decision was made on Monday, and it grants BookMyShow the right to sell tickets at all 12 venues.” Paytm will not be able to sell tickets for some reason,” stated a source familiar with the situation.

The vendor, in this case BookMyShow, receives a commission on ticket sales. It is usually 5% of the ticket price. Aside from revenue, it also benefits the company’s reputation.

According to the official, Paytm and BookMyShow were initially given six locations each. “However, because BookMyShow had Ahmedabad, an extra venue was given to Paytm, bringing their total to seven,” the spokesman added.

However, it has now been decided to hand over all of the venues to BookMyShow. The official was unable to explain the cause for the adjustment.

As of today, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune will host World Cup matches, while Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram, along with Hyderabad, will host warm-up games.

The World Cup takes place from October 5 until November 19. The ten warm-up games will take place between September 29 and October 3.
