Real Madrid’s young sensation, Arda Güler, has conveyed a public apology to the people of his home country, Türkiye. This comes in the wake of the midfielder and his national team being eliminated from the 2026 World Cup without making a significant impact.
Türkiye faced off against Paraguay in their second group stage match in the early hours of Saturday. The team, led by Vinzenzo Montella, was under pressure to secure a positive result after an earlier disappointing loss to Australia.
However, the outcome was once again unfavorable for Türkiye. Despite Paraguay having a player sent off late in the first half, “The Crescent-Stars” were unable to mount a comeback and ultimately suffered a 1-0 defeat.
Arda Güler started in this crucial match but, like many of his teammates, struggled to make a decisive contribution in the attacking third. Following the confirmation of their World Cup exit, the Real Madrid player addressed the media, seizing the opportunity to offer an apology to the Turkish public.
“We want to apologize; we feel ashamed,” Güler stated. “We all play for top clubs, and we should be performing much better in this competition. In two games, we haven’t scored any goals, and that’s unacceptable.”
